Self building had been a longstanding dream of Hannah and Charlie Warboys. They bought a house in Cambridgeshire in 2011 and were considering renovating it when they realised a makeover was never going to be the same as building their own home from scratch. In their own words, they wanted a house and layout without compromise, and only self building could offer that.
They visited the Potton Show Centre in St Neots and were quickly swayed by Potton’s offering of a comprehensive package service from planning to build. They began in July 2018 and self managed their build, living in a static caravan onsite for the build duration to enable things to run as smoothly as possible.
By August 2019, the Warboys’ brand-new Potton home was complete. The home has a symmetrical front elevation with striking red brick. To the rear, a first-floor Juliet balcony and huge ground-floor sliding door open up the internal space to the garden. Inside, the floorplan prioritises circulation space. The vaulted ceiling directly over the front door benefits from two roof lights which open up the hall and first-floor landing space. A generous open-plan kitchen and living area is accessed through double doors.
The Warboys' were able to stay well under budget. At £1.5 million, the home’s completion value more than makes up for all their hard work, as does the magnificent finished home.
