Join us on Saturday 6th January at our show centre in St Neots for a day of discovering all things self-build. Whether you’re an aspiring first-time builder or a seasoned pro, our experts will be on hand throughout the event to advise and to answer your questions.
There’s no need for an appointment, you’re free to wander around at your own pace, exploring our beautiful show homes and seeing just what is possible when you build your own property.
We’ll be in The Gransden, ready to greet you upon your arrival with a welcoming glass of fizz. Our self-build consultants will be on hand to offer information and for all those seeking expert advice on their projects or future plans, then one-to-one appointments will be readily available.
We have a programme of talks scheduled for the first half of the day, beginning with an introduction to the build process and the vital issue of budgets. Our second session considers what you should be looking for in a build system, whether your preferred choice is timber frame or SIPs, and our final discussion focuses on design, taking into account local planning regulations and what you need to do to ensure a positive outcome.
There’s no obligation to attend, but each session will deliver valuable advice that will benefit you even if you’re still in the planning stages of your self-build.
Helpful hubs
We’ve set up specialist hubs for the duration of the event in each of our show homes. You’re free to explore each hub and ask for specific information about any aspect of self-building.
You’ll find our Design Hub in The Milchester. This is the place to go to view our ideas book for design inspiration, to look at different elevations, to pick up tips on how to put together a design brief and to meet our architects and architectural designers.
Head to The Wickhambrook for our Land Hub; here you can chat to our self-build consultants about sourcing a plot and to our custom build team about new custom build plots we expect to offer in 2024.
Our technical team at the Build Hub is based in The Elsworth. This is where you can discuss the merits of our different build systems, view cross sections of different products in our build system displays and talk ‘U’ values with the tech team. If you have any questions about energy efficiency products and want to know more about Passivhaus, timber frame systems or SIPs, this is where you’ll find the answers. Experts from Rega Ventilation will also be on hand to talk about the benefits of installing an MVHR system in your new home.
What we do
Potton offers a full service to self-builders, including help finding a plot, applying for planning and designing your home, but we also offer a build-only package to those who already have their architectural plans in place.
We will work with you and your architect to formulate the best way forward for building your home, offering a coordinated approach so that you can be sure your architectural design fits perfectly with the frame design.
To learn more about our various services and approaches, simply speak to one of our self-build consultants during your visit.
Six decades of build expertise
While you’re with us, why not raise a glass to our 60th birthday, which we’re celebrating in 2024.
The Potton Timber Engineering Company was founded back in 1964 and at the beginning we worked extensively with local authorities, supplying timber-frame houses. The 1980s saw our move into the self-build market and this is where we have remained since, specialising in helping people realise their self-build dreams.
We have a number of events planned in honour of our diamond anniversary year, more details will be unveiled soon so keep an eye on our website for upcoming seminars, workshops and courses, all of which, as always, will be free of charge.
Partner with Potton and let us help you take the first steps on your self-build journey.
