After six months of renovation and refurbishment, we have unveiled the all-new Milchester show home following a major refurbishment.
The Milchester, which is the largest of the five show homes at our Self Build Show Centre, has been completely transformed to create an inspirational space that better reflects the tastes of today’s discerning self builders and satisfies the essential requirements for modern family living.
What's changed at our show home?
Whilst the show home’s original Georgian façade has been largely retained, there have been some major structural alterations that have significantly changed the look and feel of the popular show home.
Potton’s design team have combined the old kitchen, conservatory and TV room by removing the existing dividing walls and reconfiguring the layout. This has created one central family living area which brings together the kitchen, dining area and an informal seating space. The original outdated footprint has now made way for a light and bright, social living space which is more suited to current lifestyle trends.
Complemented by sympathetic interior design, which pays homage to the show home’s origins, the all new Milchester has been designed to inspire ‘wannabe’ self builders to push the boundaries of home design and demonstrate what can be achieved with a little vision and creativity.
'We have knocked down internal walls, reconfigured a number of rooms and installed features like the Shaker style kitchen, free standing baths and cast iron feature radiators that are very traditional yet have a modern twist. The Milchester is one of our most popular show homes and so it was important that we retained its integrity whilst recreating a show home that can be appreciated by all' said Fae Perkins, Marketing Manager at Potton.
'As the only facility of this type in the country, our Self Build Show Centre is a ‘must see’ for anyone thinking about self-building. With over 5,000 visitors per year, it is essential that our self build show centre is current, relevant and inspirational. The makeover of The Milchester demonstrates our innovation, our pioneering spirit and allows us to continue to be at the forefront of the self build market.'
We are delighted with The Milchester’s makeover. By creating an eclectic mix of styles, using new and old furniture and incorporating different textures and colours, we wanted to stir the imagination of our customers and show that every taste...traditional, contemporary or anything in between is entirely achievable.

We collaborated with former Potton self builder and interior design enthusiast Gill Deeks. Gill brought creativity and vision to the project resulting in a stylish interior.
Gill has achieved the final look by upcycling key pieces of existing furniture like the dining table and chairs, and utilising reclaimed timber fireplace surrounds and other fixtures & fittings to create feature pieces, will no doubt become talking points for visitors, and will start their creative juices flowing.
By working with a number of tried and trusted suppliers, we have also created an opportunity for other brands to showcase their own products and allows customers to see, first hand, the quality and workmanship.
Potton’s Contract Supervisor, James Webster has overseen the transformation of the Milchester and kept the project on time and to schedule enabling the show home to reopen as scheduled mid-March. The opening events welcomed over 200 visitors who were among the first to see the revamped show house.
The Milchester, along with the other four stunning show homes at our Self Build Show Centre is open Monday – Friday, 9am-4pm and Saturday's 10am-4pm (last admission 30 minutes prior to closing).
